1962 -1971

A legendary local nightspot of the 1960s, the Locarno was the place to be until its closure in 1971. It would undergo a number of name changes in the subsequent years – Tiffany’s, Peppermint Park (briefly) and of course, Lexington Avenue. The building has since been demolished to make way for the Hilton Doubletree Hotel.

With thanks to Steve Goodhand for the main photo above, and a further nod to Paul Gibson for the information contained on his excellent local history website and quoted here.
