Steve Cobby

The Solid Doctor is one of the many recording aliases of Fila Brazillia / Pork Recordings mainman Steve Cobby. Two superlative full length releases, 1995’s How About Some Ether and its 1996 follow up Beats Means Highs sit alongside a handful of 12″ singles, together forming a small but perfectly formed back catalogue.

Cobby released a six-disc CD boxset reissue of that first album entitled How About Some More Ether in 2017 (via his own Déclassé imprint), comprising a remastered version of the original release, unreleased tracks, unedited versions of tracks from the album and various other Solid Doctor gems from the same era. You’ll need to set some time aside to listen to all six CDs, but we highly recommend that you do exactly that. As downbeat, chilled-out electronica goes, both Solid Doctor albums (and indeed the 12″ releases) are as good as anything out there.
