About

Singer-songwriter Doug Peters has performed his own style of prog-folk to audiences since the early 1990s.  His first live gigs were in Hull in the late 1980s at the Coronation pub, guest slots during the main band’s break, performing 60’s covers, and then eventually playing his own original material regularly at open mic nights during the early 1990s at the Blue Lamp, run by Mike Greaves, Dave Greaves and Ched Cheeseman – who he regards as providing him with the early encouragement necessary to continue songwriting and performing live music.

From the mid-1990s Doug lived and worked in Edinburgh and was involved in both the open mic and pagan music scenes there. In 2001 he worked in the USA, an experience that led to the writing and recording of his first CD “Sacred Water” upon his return to Scotland. The CD was recorded at the studios of Descendants Of Cain, a Soho-based Goth band, and was later reviewed in “Musician” magazine.

Doug returned to Hull in 2005. While performing at an open mic at the King Billy in Cottingham he was introduced to Ian Kennington and subsequently became involved in the organisation of Cottingham Springboard Festival.

2007 and 2008 saw releases of two new CD albums and Doug continued to perform gigs across the region, as well as performing in Paris, Koln (Cologne) and Creel in Mexico; however, deteriorating health was affecting his ability to perform as regularly as he wished, and by the late 00’s, he was restricting himself to some free festivals and similar music events in the Hull & East Yorkshire area.

Doug continues to perform at such events when able and is still actively involved in the administration of Cottingham Springboard and Filey Folk festivals.

As well as his own CDs, Doug’s track Pact appears on the highly rated folk compilation CD “John Barleycorn Reborn” featuring an eclectic mix of dark folk from acts in the UK including Peter Ulrich (Dead Can Dance / This Mortal Coil).
