In November 2013, Hull was awarded the prestigious title of UK City Of Culture 2017. The city celebrated in unison as the unique cultural landscape of Hull finally gained the recognition it so richly deserved.

Of course, in any town or city, a major component of its culture will always be MUSIC. Hull is no exception, and over the years the city has produced a variety of outstanding artists across every imaginable genre and style.

Here at the Archive we aim to build a definitive reference guide to the history of Hull music, documenting not only bands and artists, but stretching out to include EVERY aspect of the City’s musical activity – venues, record labels, studios, record shops, festivals, magazines and just about everything else you can possibly think of that relates to our city’s musical output.

An ambitious project of this magnitude can’t possibly succeed without an active community to drive it, and this is where YOU come in. We need people to help us build the Archive, fill in the details, plug the gaps and make the Archive grow.
